Hello – I’m Lisa

Welcome to The Learning Kitchen — a place for real recipes, honest lessons, and everything I’m still figuring out along the way.

My Story

I grew up in my family’s Chinese restaurant, where both of my parents were cooks. Being around a working kitchen from such a young age is probably where my love for food started. But even with that background, I’m not a professional chef. I’m a home cook who is still learning — just like many of you.

Cooking has always been my way of bringing joy to the people I care about. Over time, I realized I don’t just enjoy making food, I enjoy understanding it. Why certain techniques work. How small changes affect flavor. How to get a little better with each attempt.

The Learning Kitchen is where I document that process. It’s a collection of meals I’ve made, lessons I’ve learned, and things I’m still figuring out. Some recipes come from experience, some are inspired by others, and all of them are approached with the goal of getting a little better over time.

What You’ll Find Here

Learning Notes

What went wrong, what surprised me, what I’d adjust next time. The honest stuff you don’t usually find in a recipe card.

Real Talk

No chef-speak, no professional-level expectations. Just practical tips that make cooking feel more manageable.

My goal is to help everyday people learn how to cook through simple recipes and real-world experience — without overwhelming instructions or professional-level expectations.

If you’re learning too, you’re in the right place.
